Dr. Alois Zauner is a board-certified Neurosurgeon and Neuroendovascular Surgeon specializing in complex cranial and neurovascular conditions. He completed his neurosurgery residency at Virginia Commonwealth University and advanced fellowship training in Neuroendovascular surgery at UCLA. Dr. Zauner dedicated three years to research at the National Institutes of Health and the Medical College of Virginia, where he focused on brain metabolism and brain oxygenation in patients after severe traumatic brain injury and after brain hemorrhage. This strong foundation provided him with a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to treating complex neurological disorders.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Zauner has performed more than 3,500 cerebral aneurysm procedures and over 15,000 open cranial, spinal, and endovascular procedures. His clinical expertise includes traumatic brain injury management, neurovascular surgery, brain tumor surgery, and advanced diagnostic and interventional neurovascular care. He is committed to utilizing both microsurgical and minimally invasive catheter-based techniques to deliver the safest and most effective treatment options for his patients.

Dr. Zauner is the founder of the Saving the Brain Conference on the Central Coast of California, an educational initiative dedicated to advancing best practices in neuroscience and neurovascular care. In 2021, he established the Enzian Neurovascular Research and Training Center in San Diego, a facility devoted to physician education, hands-on simulation, and innovation in catheter-based neurovascular technologies. Outside of medicine, Dr. Zauner is an avid skier and enjoys spending time with his wife and children.
